Monel 400 (UNS N04400) is a solid solution strengthened corrosion resistant alloy. Due to its high nickel content and high copper content, Monel 400 has corrosion resistance unmatched by other alloys in flowing seawater. Therefore, Monel 400 is widely used in the marine industry. Compared to other nickel alloys, Monel 400 is rarely used in high temperature applications.
We manufacture Monel 400 wire according to ASTM B164 by default. Our Monel 400 wire is precision cold drawn to achieve very high diameter accuracy. In the standard, Monel 400 wire is specified in various delivery states. We can customize the tensile strength of wire according to your requirements. FAQ
What are the differences between pure nickel, pure copper, and Monel 400?
In terms of composition, pure nickel and pure copper are single metals with no other elements added; Monel 400, on the other hand, is an alloy composed of nickel, copper, and other elements. In terms of properties, both pure copper and pure nickel have low hardness. In contrast, Monel 400 not only offers higher strength but also superior corrosion resistance and certain high-temperature performance characteristics.
Can you supply spring wire?
Yes, we can provide spring wire. We can even customize spring wire based on the tensile strength you specify. If you can tell us whether your finished product is a tension spring or a compression spring, we can further optimize the performance of the spring wire accordingly.
Can you specify the weight per coil?
Yes. If you have this requirement, we will calculate the weight during the wire rod stage, and we can precisely control the weight of each coil during the coiling process. However, there will generally be some tolerance in this weight.
What is the difference between wire and wire rod?
Wire rod is the raw material for wire. During production, wire rod is first produced through hot rolling, and then wire is produced by cold drawing the wire rod. Therefore, wire rod has a larger diameter, while wire has a smaller diameter. Additionally, wire can be customized for specific properties, whereas wire rod cannot.
What are soft, semi-hard, and hard conditions?
These are different delivery conditions for wire. After cold drawing, the wire reaches its maximum strength. Subsequently, applying different heat treatment regimens allows the wire to achieve varying tensile strengths. Hard wire has the highest tensile strength, followed by semi-hard wire, with soft wire having the lowest.
Can you provide samples?
If we have stock, providing samples is no problem. However, depending on the specific sample dimensions and quantity, a sample fee may apply. Additionally, you will be responsible for the shipping costs of the samples.
