Inconel 718 is a precipitation strengthened superalloy. It is often used in applications such as aircraft engine blades that require prolonged stress at high temperatures.
We manufacture Inconel 718 wire according to SAE AMS 5962 standard. For wire, we can increase the strength of the material by cold drawing. Inconel 718 itself can be aging treated to obtain higher strength. These properties give us the freedom to tailor the tensile properties of your material.

Before cold working, bar and wire stock shall be solution heat treated by heating to a temperature within the range 1700 to 1850 °F (927 to 1010 °C), holding at the selected temperature within ±25 °F (±14 °C) for a time commensurate with cross-section thickness, and quenching at a rate equivalent to an air cool or faster.
The product shall be precipitation heat treated by heating to 1325 °F ± 15 (718 °C ± 8), holding at heat for not less than 8 hours, cooling at a rate of 100 F ± 15 (56 C ± 8) degrees per hour, holding at 1150 °F ± 15 (621 °C ± 8), for not less than 8 hours, and cooling in air. Instead of the 100 F (56 C) degrees per hour cooling rate to 1150 °F ± 15 (621 °C ± 8), product may be furnace cooled at any rate provided the time at 1150 °F ± 15 (621 °C ± 8) is adjusted to give a total precipitation heat treatment time of not less than 18 hours.

Why is Inconel 718 so widely used?

Because it combines several excellent properties. Chromium and molybdenum ensure the material’s corrosion resistance, nickel enables it to withstand high temperatures, and precipitation hardening provides high strength. Taken together, these properties make it ideal for applications under extreme conditions.
When delivered in coil form, what is the inner diameter of the coil?

By default, we set the inner diameter of coils to 1,000 millimeters. This size is primarily designed to meet the general requirements of most customers for decoilers and subsequent processing lines. Of course, if you have specific inner diameter requirements (such as to match a particular mandrel size or reduce changeover time), we can fully customize the dimensions according to your needs to meet your actual operating conditions.
Can you produce spring wire?

Yes, we can supply spring wire. We can even customize spring wire according to the tensile strength you specify. If you tell us whether your finished product is a tension spring or a compression spring, we can further optimize the spring wire’s performance based on that information.
How are the terms "soft," "semi-hard," and "hard" defined for wire?

These terms refer to the delivery condition of the wire. Wire achieves maximum strength after cold drawing. Different heat treatment processes are then applied to achieve varying tensile strengths. Ranked from highest to lowest strength: hard > semi-hard > soft.
Is the wire supplied in continuous lengths?

Yes, this is a fundamental characteristic of our wire products. All the wire we supply is produced in a single continuous run, with no welding or splicing of any kind along the entire length. This continuous length is sufficient to meet the length requirements of the vast majority of applications. However, if you have extremely specific length requirements (such as a single-strand length far exceeding standard production) and you explicitly permit welding along the length, we can also customize production according to your specific requirements.
What is the minimum order quantity?

Inconel 718 is a relatively common grade, and wire products can be ordered in smaller quantities. Depending on the dimensions, our MOQ typically ranges from 30 kg to 50 kg.
